Atypical disseminated intravascular coagulopathy during bubonic plague

چکیده
Powerful pathogens such as Bacillus anthracis and Yersinia pestis cause severe hemorrhagic syndromes that have previously been attributed to a Disseminated Intravascular Coagulopathy (DIC). However, the data attesting this statement are missing or contradictory. This study aimed at determining whether DIC do occur late stages of plague anthrax. Using mouse models cutaneous anthrax bubonic plague, we observed most B. anthracis-infected animals exhibited increased partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) prothrombin (PT), along with dynamic consumption fibrinogen, matching characteristics an overt DIC. In contrast, only heavily Y. pestis-infected mice displayed aPTT, but little fibrinogen no increase PT were in infected animals, even infection. Therefore, coagulopathy develops during is compatible classical DIC, while not present typical parameters. suggests mechanism involved hemorrhages exhibits specific, atypical pattern. It then important understand how these triggered.

Jaundice in pregnancy can be caused by viral hepatitis, intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, choledocholithiases, HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and a low platelet count), severe preeclampsia, and acute fatty liver of pregnancy. Background. This is a case of 18-year-old adolescent girl admitted with profuse vaginal bleeding following induced second trimester curettage abortion at 13 weeks of gestation. Case. Her transvaginal sonogram detected retained products of conceptus, and her blood reports revealed a full blown picture of DIC. Dilatation and evacuation was done after initial resuscitation with packed RBCs and pla...
متن کاملAdvanced Congestive Heart Failure Associated With Disseminated Intravascular Coagulopathy
Background. Disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC) is a complication of an underlying disease and not a primary illness. It is most commonly associated with sepsis, trauma, obstetrical complications, and malignancies. There are very few cases in the literature illustrating the association between DIC and congestive heart failure. Findings. In this report, we present a case of severe cong...
متن کاملDiagnosing disseminated intravascular coagulopathy in acute promyelocytic leukemia.
Disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC) (see Figure 1) is a complex, life-threatening condition that causes a hypercoagulative state, resulting in inappropriate activation of the coagulation cascade (see Figure 2). Activation of the coagulation cascade is triggered by the release of tissue factor (TF), a transmembrane glycoprotein (McCance & Huether, 2006). On release of TF, the coagulati...
متن کاملDissociation of Tissue Destruction and Bacterial Expansion during Bubonic Plague
Activation and/or recruitment of the host plasmin, a fibrinolytic enzyme also active on extracellular matrix components, is a common invasive strategy of bacterial pathogens. Yersinia pestis, the bubonic plague agent, expresses the multifunctional surface protease Pla, which activates plasmin and inactivates fibrinolysis inhibitors. Pla is encoded by the pPla plasmid. Following intradermal inoc...
